JFK: The Kennedy assassination is Mace’s lifelong obsession. He painted a realistic version of the event ten years ago, “but it’s still not done,” he says. “I thought it was over, and the obsession lifted, but now I realize I have to deconstruct the painting. You can see the obsession in the tight control over the imagery. Now my goal is to destroy the surface, sand it down and rework the figures, change the background. It’s my Mona Lisa. It’ll never be finished.”
